Remember the days when it was a big deal to send a copy of a document across the country in seconds with a fax machine. At the time that was amazing. Well MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab is working on a new 3D printer that may be able to print a complete part. 3D printers are not new but they all print in a single material like plastic, nylon, or metal. This new printer is designed to print with up to ten materials simultaneously. Instead of printing different parts on various printers and then assembling them, this machine could literally print an assembled, functioning component.  So in the future could you just download and print that replacement part for your refrigerator? How about the latest cell phone? Maybe.
