Diabetics are used to pricking their fingers in order to apply a test strip to check on their sugar count in their blood. Many do this several times a day. It is much easier than going to the doctor’s office to have someone draw blood. Unfortunately, drawing blood is still necessary for thousands of medical tests Americans deal with every day. However, soon, thanks to the company Theranos, a simple finger prick will be able to test for type 1 herpes simplex, check on your cancer biomarkers, cholesterol counts, illegal drugs and even infectious diseases. Besides saving us a visit to the doctor’s office, we won’t have to send the results off to a lab. And, of course, the savings will be fantastic!
